Brother Phrong's baptism, successful inviting and extreme elephant riding mark another busy week for Elder Jesse Bundy teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in Thailand
Elder Jesse Bundy, Brother Phrong and Elder Weaver

Elder Jesse Bundy continues to love his mission....the people, the countryside and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He writes, "Sunday!!  BAPTISM!!!  Brother Phrong, an investigator we have been working with this whole transfer is SO AWESOME!  He loves to serve and is always helping out at the hospital.  We also enjoyed the Elder Gary E. Stevenson broadcast, who is an apostle of God, to all of the saints in Thailand.....After church, we invited our investigators, the Bly Family, to eat at the Bishop's house, and they came!  It was way cool to have Sister Bly and her two little kids get fellowshipped in a proper way!"

"District meeting was great!  I found a way cool comparison in the Book of Mormon in Alma, Chapter 17 and I compared it with bringing the members, or "sheep" back to church with our work here........Later that day, I went on switch-offs with the other Elders and the Lord blessed me to get over 20 people's numbers at the market before we went home for the day."

"...Oh yeah, I also crashed my bike and hurt my knee again.......We are also working with 3 miracle families right now!  A family of four - Wa, Da, Noy and Gwang; another family of four - Le, Tid, Kun, and Kate, and then our family of three - Bly, Eye, and her little baby.  Wednesday, we met with Wa and Da's family.  All of them are really poor and don't have a lot, but they are always trying to feed us.  We taught the Plan of Salvation......It was a GREAT lesson.  They learned they can be together forever as a family!  Then, we taught a drunk man at the Church which was kind of awkward...lol....After all of that, we went on a way solid biking contact session!"
Some of the beautiful scenery they passed while biking back to town

Elder Jesse Bundy went on, "Later that day, we were inviting and Elder Weaver's bike broke!  We had to ride tandem for like 7+ kilos back to the city.  When we got back, we went to Book of Mormon class at the church.  One of our solid investigators was there, Sister Buu!  She is progressing pretty good, we just have to get her to church this Sunday."

"On Friday, we trekked into the unknown wilds of Thailand!  Elder Weaver and I hopped on our bikes and rode straight into the plains of the outback farmlands in search of families to teach!!  We found some and on the way back, we were blessed to teach 3 separate families!  We read them 3rd Nephi, Chapter 11 out of the Book of Mormon and taught them who Jesus Christ is.  We didn't get a whole lot of return appointments, but it was really cool to teach them about Jesus Christ.  After that, we went back to the church and taught the Le family.  It was way cool and they committed to be baptized!!  We then played volley ball at the Ward's sports night.  It was way fun!!"

Elder Jesse Bundy is loving his mission and continually expresses his gratitude for the opportunity he is getting to serve the people in Thailand.  He also continues to follow his Dad's advice of remembering to work hard, then play hard within the rules on his P-Days.  Fishing and extreme elephant riding......

Elder Weaver riding in front of me with our fishing pole!

"This week has been GREAT and really crazy!  Last Monday, Elder Weaver and I bought the cheapest fishing pole we could find and went in search of a monster fish.....sadly, we came out empty handed.  It's like the fish of Thailand don't like to eat hotdogs or something....LOL...but the view over the lake went was all worth it!!"
The lake Elder Bundy and Elder Weaver went fishing in

Elder Bundy goes on, "Today, Elder Weaver and I got up early this morning and biked 5 kilos into the wilderness and went fishing again!  We met a farmer who wants us to teach him the gospel and ride his water buffalo...
Elder Weaver and the farmer

"After all of that, it was still only 7 a.m.!  We biked home to hop in a member's truck and go to the neighboring city of Surin.  We went to a place called the elephant neighborhood.  It was nuts!  We watched an elephant show, then we RODE THEM!!  It was a blast!!!"

It was just one year ago, Elder Jesse Bundy took first place in the 195 lb. weight class in wrestling at the State of Missouri High School Championship Wrestling Tournament!!  Now.........he's in Thailand, speaking Thai and Eisan, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and riding elephants!!!

"Saturday, my knee had really been hurting to the point it was hard to walk!  I finally broke down and went to the hospital....they ended up giving me this NASTY shot RIGHT INTO MY KNEE CAP!  It hurt soooooo bad!!!  But they also gave me some medication to help it heal.  I think it has gotten better, so that's good.  After that, we went on a less actives hunt with some members.  We taught 3 different families and invited them to watch Elder Stevenson's Broadcast with us on Sunday.  I did another switch-off with the Elders.....the two junior companions contacted like bosses and got a TON of numbers when they went off the other day....."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA!!  I hope you had a GREAT day and I LOVE YOU!!!!

All in all, it was a CRAZY awesome week and I'm LOVING it here!!  I will send pictures now.

I love you,

Elder Jesse A. Bundy

Elder Jesse Bundy expresses gratitude as he finds investigators, goes to the zoo and continues to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in Sisaket

Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Weaver

Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Weaver begin every day with companion scripture study, personal study and prayer before they go to work spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He writes, "MOM, hello!  This week has been amazing!  We have been SO blessed in our finding and have investigators coming out the wazoo!!  We can't wait to start teaching them.  But the BEST thing ever is that just with this one week, church attendance shot up from 60 to 115!! Now, if we can just keep the momentum going and keep them coming....but we are off to a great start!  We met the mission standard on numbers......so we are all pretty pumped!!"
Elder Jesse Bundy giving an investigator a ride to church on Sunday

Elder Jesse Bundy expresses his gratitude for the missionaries he works with and their willingness to work hard and be obedient.  He goes on to talk about the work in Sisaket, "We had 11 investigators come to church AND we have 4 people with baptismal dates that I feel certain are really understanding and feeling what we are teaching.  We also have 2 whole families we are teaching that are really progressing......It's just CRAZY awesome what happens when BOTH people in a companionship are willing to work hard and be obedient!  I love it and I'm very thankful for Elder Weaver and the other obedient missionaries in this area!"
Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Weaver all decked out in their suits just before church this past Sunday.

"For p-day this week, we are going fishing.  We have no idea where.  We are just going to find some water and throw some bait on a hook into the water, hahaha........We are going to take the fish we catch to a family home evening at a member's house and cook 'em up tonight.......I hope we get to check out the waterfalls in Ubon some time.  Earlier this week, we attended Zone Leader training in Ubon.  It's about 45 minutes away....so I was just there, where those waterfalls are last Friday.  Maybe on another p-day we'll get the chance to check those out."
Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Weaver enjoying some coconut water while out finding investigators

"You asked about the area.  We ride our bikes everywhere everyday just like when I was in Plok.  I already told you that the food is sooooo good!  I LOVE IT!  I'm just say'n, Eisan food is my favorite Thai food.  My favorite dishes are Nam Thok, Sua Rong Hai and Som Tam.  You eat them with Khaw Niaw, or sticky rice.  It is gooood!  We are in the boonies here.  I feel pretty at home.  If we bike 5 minutes in any direction, we'll find water buffalo farms....It's awesome!  Water buffalo farms are rice farms with water buffalo on them."
Elder Bundy at the zoo in Sisaket

"We went to the zoo last week.  They have some way cool stuff there; crocs, monkeys, birds and bears!!!  All kinds of really cool animals in kind of sketchy cages that let us get up all close and personal, but it was way fun...."
Elder Weaver and Elder Jesse Bundy at the zoo last p-day

"Check out these hippo's, bears and monkeys....and of course Elder Weaver and me at the zoo!"

Elder Jesse Bundy ends this week's letter, "Well, that's it for this week momma!!!  I love you Mom!  I love you Dad!!  Tell everyone hello for me......until next week...."

I love you guys!

Elder Jesse Bundy gets transferred, called to be a District Leader and gets a new companion
Elder Jesse Bundy, Elder Williams, Elder Hunt and Elder Weaver.  The Sisaket squad ready to roll!

Elder Jesse Bundy's letter home was filled with excitement and anticipation as he moves to his new area.  He writes, "This past week has been NUTS!  It has been so, so crazy and good!  So, here's the down low;  My new companion is Elder Weaver.  He was just transferred from his greenie (first) area in Chaing Rai, the furthest point north in Thailand.  My new area is Sisaket.  It is out in the far eastern border of Thailand.....my area borders Cambodia on the southern end and is very close to Laos on the eastern side.....and the food is SOOOOO good!! lol.....they speak Eisan, which is an eastern dialect of Thai and it's so much fun to speak......I have also been called to be the district leader here.....I am excited to work with these amazing missionaries and the great members here!"

Elder Jesse Bundy with an amazing man, the Bishop of the Ward in Sisaket

Elder Jesse Bundy goes on to describe the work in his new area.  He writes, "There were only 2 elders here before, so Elder Weaver and I inherited very little......it's like this awesome fresh start.  The members here are AMAZING!!  They run their meetings and everything just like in the states and they get things done......This area has had some difficulties and their congregation attendance at church has really suffered.....it is going to take a lot of work and good will.....but we can do it."

"....My second day here, we had 2 meetings with all of the auxiliary leaders in the ward, the ward mission, and the bishopric.  We set some crazy AWESOME goals.....I was able to talk with everyone and we all got really pumped about finding everyone who has stopped coming to church and getting them all to come back!  It was soooooo awesome and the spirit was so strong!  I am really excited to get to work!"

Elder Williams, a couple we are teaching, Elder Hunt, Elder Weaver and Elder Jesse Bundy

"Elder Weaver and I are killing it!  In the 3 days we have been here, we have found 2 progressing investigators (people who want the lessons), 1 dater (an individual who has a baptismal date), and have built WAY good relations with the members!......And...the best thing EVER!  I LOVE the Bishop and his wife!  They are the coolest people and want this area to grow SO bad and really want our help....the Bishop's wife is you Mom!  She says the exact same things you say - always teaching the gospel, and she made us dinner last night at their house.  She did the same thing you do, how you don't really eat with us but say you ate while you were making it and just secretly you just keep serving everyone!  It was so awesome and made me feel like I was at home!  They fed us soooo much and I felt so bad after because they wouldn't let me help do anything!  I tried to help make the food, clean their house, do the dishes, do everything I could but she wouldn't let me!  She physically forbid me......I told her that she is the Thai version of you mom."

Elder Jesse Bundy, Elder Weaver and Elder Hunt with the Bishop, his wife and family

"The Bishop and his wife do so much for the missionaries it's insane!  I want to do everything I can to do my best for them, the Lord and this area....."
 Elder Bundy

"Sisaket is an 8-hour bus ride from Bangkok.  We speak a different dialect called Eisan.  It's the same grammar but with different words...I am thankful for the gift of tongues and...I learned some of it from Elder Wright and a Sister in Bangkae......The food is different but soooooo good and is called Esian food......I laugh when I think how I was so worried about the food before I left.  I really lucked out!
Elder Bundy out working, enjoying the ride!

"I have to go already!  I love you mamma and pops!!  Tell the family I love them and I am going to work super hard!"

I love you!

Elder Jesse Bundy goes on to add, ".....It was so great to be set apart for my mission at my Grandpa's house and to receive his words of encouragement and testimony before he passed.....I feel really blessed and lucky!.....I wish he could of held out until I got back, but I know I will see him again.  I am grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and that families can be together forever.  I have a testimony of this work and I know that our family has been sealed in God's holy temple and I know that I will see my Grandpa again!"

I LOVE YOU GRANDPA!

Elder Jesse Bundy went on to discuss his mission travels this week.  He wrote, "We are about to get the transfer calls, hopefully.  This week was pretty average, in fact down right slow.......I have just been trying to get all of the records an investigators in order.  I am fairly certain I will be leaving this area this week...."

This is my good buddy, Brother Game.
Elder Jesse Bundy with all of the elders that live in his apartment in Bangkae

Elder Jesse Bundy's letter was short this week as he prepares to be transferred to a new area and to work with a new companion.  He writes, "The work has been WAY SLOW this week.....no new investigators and all of our previous daters (investigators with baptismal dates) faded away.  So that stunk, but Brother War got baptized last week and is getting the Priesthood and Brother Gaang is still progressing, slowly, so that's good......"  Elder Bundy expressed his desire to make sure that the people he is teaching fully understand and have a testimony of the gospel before they get baptized.  He has been concerned that some of the new members he has been out to visit in their homes were baptized too quickly without really understanding the church, or having a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Elder Bundy goes on to discuss his personal study for this week and other topics.  He writes, "In my personal study, I found this sick thing in last years' January 2015 Ensign that maps out the stories of the Old Testament......so the past couple of days, I've been going over it.  Everyone needs to study it!  It's AWESOME!"

"We haven't received the call for transfers yet, but other elders have so it should come any second....last p-day, we went to Siam Paragon, which is a huge mall place and we ate at Sizzler's!  It was AMAZING!  I don't need any money, but thanks.  We get our food money at the first of the month, soooooo yeah!!!  Today is February 1st......"

"Soooooo, we are going to get outta here pretty soon.  I hope you got all of my pictures and that I answered all of your questions....no call yet, so I guess you'll have to wait until next week to find out where I'm going.......just know that I'm waaayyyyy good, the church is true and I love and miss you guys!   I love you!!!!!  I'll talk to you next week!"

War gets baptized and receives the Priesthood and Elder Jesse Bundy asks everyone to read The New and Everlasting Covenant found in the insert of the December 2015 Ensign!
Elder Bingham, War and Elder Bundy on War's baptism day.
War and Elder Bundy strike a pose before War enters the waters of baptism in Thailand.

"Our main man, War, passed his interview with flying colors!  I was honored to baptize him and he brought his entire family to the services Sunday!  It WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!  I am SO blown away by how hard he is working to know the truth and do what is right!  He has changed so much and this next week, he will receive the priesthood and a calling because the Branch President likes him so much......Brother War is a boss!"

Elder Jesse Bundy also shared some frustration in coming up with a way to help a other investigators overcome difficulties they are experiencing in preparing for baptism.  He writes, ".....(some) have been ready for months but keep pushing back their date.  I guess it's better that they feel all the way ready so they will stay committed than to get baptized and not be 100%.....please pray for them."
Elder Bingham and Elder Jesse Bundy with two refugee families investigating the Church
Elder Jesse Bundy expressed excitement over having the privilege of helping and teaching asylum seekers who have fled their countries from persecution.  He wrote, "....We had two separate, full families come to church that we invited!  They are asylum seekers - refugees, because if they stayed in their country they would be killed.  They can't be baptized, which is really sad, but we can still teach them and help them out."  He continued, "MOM! We had 11 investigators come to church last Sunday!!  It was AWESOME!!..... we have been working really, really hard and visiting as many less actives as we had time......Well, we had 110 people out to church yesterday!  It's usually about 70, so that was wayyyyy swaggy!"

Elder Jesse Bundy went on to talk about the rest of their week.  He writes, "Today, we are going to take Elder T, our Zone Leader, out to eat because it is his 3-year anniversary as a member of the church.  Then we are going to go to the gym and work out some more.......then there are a couple of things I need to get......I would like to purchase some sheets because I sleep on an old mattress and it scares me that I'm going to get a disease! loll.....I need to buy a couple pairs of pants because I ripped and bleached a couple of mine on accident, and we found a protein store at our mall.......So, pants about 800 baht, or 23 dollars, sheets about 1000 baht, or 28 dollars and the protein......THANK YOU MOM!  I have been eating save up roman noodles and rice for the past week because of my poor-ness......lololol"
Elder Jesse Bundy with some of his FAVORITE friends in Bangkok!
Elder Bingham with their soccer friends in Bangkok
Elder Jesse Bundy is really going to miss these boys when he gets transferred!

"Ohhhhhh, tell Shae and Rusti Lyn Happy Birthday for me!.......

Elder Bundy goes on to share what he is studying during his personal study time, "For my personal study, I am just working on memorizing scriptures, reading conference talks and continuing to read the Book of Mormon......I read an insert out of the December 2015 Ensign called the NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT.  It was WAAYYYYYY sick!  You should check it out....."

Elder Bundy ended his letter this week with, "I just had a cool memory pop into my head of when we rented that house boat and went to Lake Powell......I think that would be the coolest thing if sometime we could do that again!......well, I have to go!......I'll talk to you next week!"

I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

With 2 baptisms scheduled for this week and more to follow, Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Bingham stop to have a little fun with some fury friends
Apparently, their fury friends wanted to visit with Elder Bundy and his companion, but only wanted to eat the pass along cards and declined taking the missionary discussions....LOL...

Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Bingham couldn't resist posing with these two adorable little dogs.  While Elder Bundy is working hard and staying focused on spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he maintains his sense of humor and enjoying the work along the way.   He writes, "Hey Mom and everyone!  I don't have ANY time to write today......so sorry......Just know that all is well here in the 'ole BKK Thailand Mission!  Bingham and I have 2 baptisms scheduled for this week with more to follow!!!  We are really killing it!!!.......I feel like I am receiving more blessings than we have the ability to rake in.....I am so grateful!!"
A street Elder Bundy sees every day as he is working

Elder Bundy has really been missing his muay thai trainer.  However, they have been able to locate a substitute that is affordable.  He writes, "we have been able to get gym memberships to a gym with real weights just down the street from where we live.  It's way cheaper and it's working out quite well.....Heavenly Father is really helping us out!  It's really quite amazing!

I hope the family is good.  Ohhhhh, and can you ask everyone to pray for our 2 investigators that are getting baptized this week?  Their names are War, (but without the 'r' sound), and Gaang.  It would also be great if people would put their names on the prayer rolls in the temple where ever you are as well as mine and Binghams."
Elder Bundy with his investigator demonstrating how he heats his noodles up every day.

Elder Bundy went on, "Firstly....tell Dad that I love him and that it is sooooo cool that he is getting his health in order!  Tell him I'm way grateful for that and that to keep on going!  Also tell him that I really look up to him!  No one could have had a better Dad growing up or now!  Secondly, there are no more transfer meetings in the missions anywhere in the world anymore!  I think I remember Dad telling me how in his day, they just got a phone call and were sent packing to a new area and they had to figure out how to get there themselves....Soooo, now - all over the world, every six weeks we will just get a phone call, receive our assignments and then we will have to travel there by ourselves.  It's kind of a bummer, but I know there are really good reasons for it I'm sure......"
Elder Bundy loves the children and can't resist stopping to say hello.....

Elder Bundy ended this week's letter with his testimony and a special message to his nieces, nephews and his family.  He writes, "Tell everyone that I know the gospel is true!  I know NOW more than ever that abiding by its precepts opens the windows of heaven and allows us to receive such GREAT blessings!  One of our investigators this week told me of an experience he had while praying.  He said he, 'heard a subtle voice' tell him that he needed to be baptized and quit smoking!  It also told him that Jesus Christ is his Savior and loves him.....!

I just want everyone to know, especially my nephews and nieces, that I would never do anything (intentionally) that would take away the blessings of the Holy Ghost's companionship!  That they must never do anything that would prevent the spirit from being with them, even while they are young or be in a situation that they wouldn't want the Savior to see, or hear, or watch!  I want my family to know, especially my nieces and nephews that I know the importance of these things!  More importantly, I am learning every day more and more and I love learning and freaking seeing miracles on a daily basis!!"

"I love you Mom and I am so grateful for your example and that you know how to be my mom and my friend.  Have a great week everyone!"

Elder Jesse Bundy has a great Christmas and a fun birthday as he continues to love his mission and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Thailand
Elder Jesse Bundy with Elder Bingham and a member at their Christmas party at the church.

Elder Bundy had a great Christmas and a surprisingly fun birthday this past week.  He writes, "I'm doing really good!  I'm just a little tired.  I'm just kind of disappointed....The new year is one of the biggest holidays that Thailand has.....sooo, all 7 of our investigators went to visit their families in different parts of the country and only 2 of them have come back so far!  I'm not giving up......I believe most of them are still good to go, but we'll just have to see."

Because of the way the holidays fell, Elder Bundy not only had the day off on Christmas, but his birthday, January 1st also fell on a P-Day!
Elder Jesse Bundy and Elder Bingham, Christmas and New Years 2016

Elder Bundy wrote, "It was fun having P-Day on my birthday!  We didn't do a whole lot.....we just went down to mbk (a huge mall the place in downtown bkk), and played some intense ping pong at the church!  But, it was pretty fun and it was a much needed break.  Elder Bingham bought me a cake!  It was way nice because cake is super expensive here!"

Elder Bundy expressed a real slow down in the work during the holidays.  He loves talking to everyone on the streets and seeing their reaction to the message he is trying to give them.  Because Thai people as a whole have never really been taught about Jesus Christ, sometimes Elder Bundy gets a chuckle out of the reaction he receives when he first meets someone.
Elder Bundy wrote a caption to this picture, "This is what Thai people think of me AND Jesus Christ when I try to explain it to them.  Seriously....this baby's expression says it all!"

Elder Bundy goes on, "Today, we are going to SLEEP!  We have been working really hard......we getup really early to work out and run....So, after this and cleaning and doing our laundry and stuff we are going to get some sleep....."
Elder Bundy enjoys all of the sometimes crazy things he sees in Thailand on a daily basis.  He writes, "This guy wanted the cats to stop scratching and using his car hood for a litter box.....so, this is what he did......the guy said it worked, because the cats don't come back anymore!"

Elder Bundy began running out of time to write anymore and wrote, "Well.....there's not much time left on the computer.  Thank you for always emailing me and being awesome mom!  Tell dad he's awesome too.  Oh, and the muay thai training has become too expensive, so for now, we are just going to run and do push ups and sit-ups until we find something else......

I LOVE YOU GUYS!! I AM REALLY LOVING MY MISSION!!!!  Till next week....here is a picture of a 'prairie dog' at the market we saw the other day.....I felt all bad for him being all locked up...he was really cute....I thought the nieces and nephews would enjoy seeing him.....

I love you guys!!!"
