Elder Bundy's first handstand in
Thailand !

This is the group's last picture in front of the Provo Temple just
before they left Provo for the Salt Lake Airport.

This is Elder Merrill and Elder Bundy at the SLC Airport
just after talking with their families on the phone.

Elder Bundy wrote home that he LOVES Thailand!   After leaving  Salt Lake somewhere around Monday morning; they arrived in Portland, then immediatly hopped on their plane to Japan!  In fact, they almost missed their plane to Japan, but they made it safe and sound.

After arriving in Japan, they had a 2 hour layover in which finding what they needed to be difficult and a bit of a culture shock.  The phone cards they purchased didnt work in Japan, and Elder Bundy found that he most definetly does NOT speak or understand Japanese.  Elder Bundy put his expertise at playing charades to good use so the Elders could communicate.  Elder Bundy wrote,  "I guess the word for, 'your welcome' in Japanese sounds like: Donttouchmymustache," because I feel like I heard that a lot!"

The Elders soon met a sister missionary who was returning to visit Thailand who had served her mission in Bangkok about a year earlier.  The plane ride was long but were excited to have Thai flight attendants to practice their new language skills on.  Elder Bundy and Elder Merrill showed no fear in speaking Thai to them, and apparently were pretty good, cause they ended up with all of the extra food!

When they arrived in Thailand, they went thru customs super easy, as their paperwork and everything was in order.   When they arrived and after they grabbed their luggage, they saw a HUGE Captain Moroni sign in the middle of the airport!  It was President and Sister Senior and the APs.   They all loaded up in this huge van  and were off to the mission office.  Elder Bundy was at a loss for words in trying to describe the roads in Thailand.  He compared them to the roads in Mexico, but with twice as many people, and half of all the vehicles on the road were people on mopeds.  He reported that the drivers were a little crazy as there are no apparent rules.  He wrote, "I haven’t seen a speed limit sign or a single police officer of the law yet.  But for the most part I haven’t seen any accidents either."

After maneuvering through the city, they arrived at the mission office and received important instructions, before walking a few blocks to a HUGE building of a hotel where they stayed for the next couple of nights until transfers.
This was Elder Bundy's first view of Thailand out the window of the Mission home.

The next day, all of the Elders and Sisters went with President Senior to the park where President Hinckley dedicated Thailand for missionary work.  Elder Bundy wrote, "It was a super awesome experience to read the dedicatory prayer and talk with President Senior a little about the history and customs of Thailand."  On the way back, they had their first experience riding the subway and were went straight to work street contacting.  Elder Bundy seemed to really enjoy just talking to everybody that would listen, handing out passalong cards and asking if anyone is familiar or intrested in hearing about Jesus Christ.  That night, the missionaries were treated to dinner at the President's house, which is on the 30th floor of this huge high rise building.

The next day was transfers where Elder Bundy met Elder Wright, who will be his trainer and first companion in Thailand. Elder Bundy wrote, "We introduced ourselves to all of the missionaries and they all went nuts.  I guess in the mission, transfer meeting is just a blast every time."

Elder Bundy's FIRST AREA: PHITSANULOK
This is Elder Wright cooling down the cement to prepare it for Elder Bundy's handstand of the week.
They are on top of the Church.  Behind him is PHITSANULOK

Phitsanulok is a fairly big city with loads of people! Markets, stores, shops and really, really hot!  It is reportedly the hottest area in the mission.  There are just one set of Elders - Elder Bundy and Elder Wright - and one set of Sisters in all of Phitsanulok.   There is just one church building, but there are close to 60 members coming every week to church.  Elder Bundy is excited about the strength of the members already there and the prospect of so much work yet to be done.
This was Elder Bundy's reaction to the HEAT!  He said, "It is SO hot here!"

FIRST COMPANION: ELDER WRIGHT
Elder Bundy and Elder Wright getting ready to go to work!

Elder Wright has been out for almost a year.  Elder Bundy wrote, "Hes a boss at speaking Thai!  Hes been in Phitsanulok for two transfers now and hes had a bunch of success.  He actually baptized someone my first Sunday!  He has some really awesome goals and he helps me a bunch."

This was taken at Brother Chu's baptism

Elder Bundy really appreciates Elder Wright and all of his help and the example he is setting for him.  He also reports that Elder Wright resembles his good friend, Isaac Mattis from Gallatin.

Elder Wright helped me get a nice bike for a really good price.
Elder Bundy going to work! He is really excited about the bike riding.

Elder Bundy reports that he is really loving his mission so far!  He writes, "Our members are super awesome!  All of the youth want to serve missions and help us teach lessons."

Elder Bundy wrote that his Thai is progressing.  He loves talking to people through just going up to people on the streets.  He wrote, "Sometimes it’s just super hard because everyone has a different accent.  Listening closely is my biggest weakness." He finds it much easier to read the Thai language at this point, but hopes his other language skills will quickly improve.

Elder Bundy loves the food in Thailand.  This was surprising to him because before he left, he tried some curry at a Thai restaurant and was not impressed.  He writes, "I can’t even begin to start to describe how absolutely delicious it is !   We stop at this one little shaq almost every day and eat lunch.  I get this fried rice and fried egg stuff…..it’s just good!"

Okay, soo some of the street stuff isn’t sooo good lol.   The other day we didn’t have time for dinner so we just grabbed these sausage things off the street… OH yeah!  That night I had some tccngsia (broken stomache (diarriah lol))!!!!!  The tap water isn’t safe to drink here either.  It’s like brown, so we just drink bottled water.

Elder Bundy eating his favorite breakfast......rice, milk and brown sugar!  Just like home.....

Elder Bundy reported that his favorite thing he's done so far was probably biking all over the city streets contacting everybody. He really enjoys hearing all of the excuses people come up with as to why they can’t learn about Jesus Christ.  Elder Bundy is excited about the announcement of the new Bangkok Temple that was announced.  He wrote, "I especially enjoy finding a man walking down the street with his two little daughters and telling them that they can be a family forever."

Elder Bundy reports that the houses in Thailand are pretty different from the states.   They are not quite huts, but close and he says it's all they need.  He writes, "though....but... the shower and the toilet are in the same spot."  He is learning to adjust to the culture and societal norms of Thailand, but says it is taking some doing, like they do not have toilet paper.  So that’s pretty different?   As for the heat, he writes, "We only have AC in our bedroom and we can only turn in on before we go to bed at night."
This is their kitchen/dining room table.  This is where they eat and study every day.

Elder Bundy loves the children!   Although, he is sad to see all of the little children that don’t have water, places to live, or even parents.  He writes, "The thing that gets me every time though, is that they all look exactly like my nieces and nephews!  Right now were teaching this little family and the little girl looks EXACTLY like Roxy, and the little boy looks just like Holten."

Elder Bundy ends his experiences this week with how much he loves it so far and that he is really excited for all that they are doing.

Elder Jesse Bundy travels to Thailand!!!

On Monday, May 25, 2015, Jesse called us from the Salt Lake City, Utah airport!  We had a GREAT visit as he expressed his excitement to finally be headed toward his assigned mission.  Jesse had also been assigned to be the lead missionary for his group of six missionaries in making sure they all arrived safe and sound in Bangkok.
He also spoke to us in Thai!!!  It was AMAZING!!    We received the following pictures and letter from his mission president detailing what he would be doing his first several days in Thailand:

Dear Brother & Sister Bundy:

We are happy to report that your son arrived safely in Bangkok late last night, clearing passport control early this morning.  He spent what was left of the evening in a hotel with his companion, where he will also stay this evening.  He is in good spirits and is anxious to begin laboring in the Lord's vineyard in Thailand.  We are thrilled to have him as a missionary in the Thailand Bangkok Mission family.

Elder Jesse Abraham Bundy will join other newly arrived missionaries, together with President and Sister Senior and the Assistant's to the President at Lumpini Park for a morning devotional.  Lumpini Park is the site where then Elder Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the land of Thailand in 1966.  Elder Bundy will have the opportunity to dedicate and consecrate himself to the most wonderful work.  Your expressions of encouragement and spiritually uplifting email correspondence will be of great support.  The new missionaries will be trained by Sister Senior and me, and later oriented by the Office Couple, Elder and Sister Meeker, and the Mission Assistants.  New missionaries will have their first experience street contacting in the area followed by dinner at the Mission Home.

Your son will receive his first assignment tomorrow morning.  Preparation day will be on Monday and he will be able to email you each week.  I am sure he will have much to share regarding his experiences in Thailand, missionary activities and his first Sunday in his assigned area.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions during your son's term of missionary experience.

Sincerely,
President and Sister Senior

Elder Bundy leaves for Thailand Monday!
And yes, these name tags really say:
Elder J. Bundy
Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints

All of the new missionaries with the six Elders leaving Monday

Make sure EVERYONE follows the Thailand Bangkok Mission Facebook page!

They will post pictures of the missionaries traveling from Salt Lake to Japan and arriving in Thailand!!  There may be a short video as well.  Everyone needs to friend THE THAILAND BANGKOK MISSION Facebook page.  Elder Bundy writes, "I think other than that, I’m good and ready to go!"
This is Elder Bundy's District on Red day at the MTC
Also, anyone who wants to write Elder Bundy, needs to start using the Bangkok Thailand Mission home address from now on.

Other than all of the commotion that comes with getting ready to leave the MTC, Elder Bundy was surprised it was a pretty normal week.  He spent any excess time cramming a bunch of Thai vocab, and trying to learn as much as he could to prepare himself for going in country.  But, he did write about a pretty cool experience he had yesterday..

Elder Bundy writes, "So, this past week, the MTC received 5 people from Thailand serving missions to either Australia or temple square.   It’s super fun to talk to them and try and understand them because they are soooo lightening fast.....Yesterday, they all came and sat next to me at the devotional because I always talk to them and we have become friends.  Anyway, for all of the foreign missionaries at the MTC that don't speak English, they have little headsets with people translating through them to their native language. But........nobody showed up to translate the devotional in Thai.  So I ended up translating the whole hour long devotional to all of them!  It was so hard, but it was super fun!  They said they understood everything I said and felt the spirit, so that’s cool."

Elder Bundy's handstand of the week.
The next one he will do will be in Thailand......

Elder Bundy's favorite handstand so far
We were able to talk with Elder Bundy yesterday for 30 minutes.  It was so great to hear his voice.  He sounds great and is enjoying his mission so far.

Here are the next, newest Bangkok Thailand missionaries anxious to get there and go to work!

Elder Bundy talked about the fact that even though he has loved the MTC, he is really ready to get to Thailand and begin his mission.  I had sent him a couple of pictures from when we picked up his sister, Kelsha, from her mission in Argentina.  We had a great time!

Here we are in Argentina picking Kelsha up off of her mission in 2011!
Elder Bundy's Dad was taking the picture.

A much younger Elder Bundy with his sister, Hermana Bundy in Argtentina!
Looks like brother and sister at MTC!  LOL.....My how Jesse has grown up!

Elder Bundy didn't write much this week because we were able to talk on the phone yesterday.  He writes, "The weeks are all the same here seems like....but it's in a good way.  That way we can all stay focused and learn our respective languages."
This week's cereal challenge with frosted mini wheats!

On the right is Elder Moderno, and the Nung Thai on the
left is Elder Bundy's buddy, Elder Cravens.

Elder Bundy wrote, "The devotionals were okay this week.  Nothing that really stood out, but they were enjoyable. One thing that has really stuck with me this week is a specific chapter in the Book of Mormon, JACOB chapter 5.  I've read it a couple times over this week and I've really learned a lot of new things."  He also mentioned that he is beginning to work out again, trying to regain his stomach, etc., after all of those cereal challenges.

Another great experience this week that he almost forgot to mention, "Oh!  I almost forgot to tell you, both of my investigators were baptized yesterday!!!  It is awesome to know that I have learned enough to teach all of the lessons and that I have the ability to teach with the spirit in Thai!... I feel like with the Lord's help, I'll be ready in two weeks to go in country, which is good, cause that's when I'll be there!"

Elder Bundy ended his letter with, "And, MOM!!!  I LOVE YOU AND HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY AGAIN!!!  We'll talk again in two weeks.  I can't wait!"

May 4, 2015

Turns out, Selena Gomez (look alike) was at our last devotional! LOL

Everything is going great here!  We get our Nung Thais (we were the Nung Thais when we first got here, and now we'll be the Phii Thais) this Wednesday when all the new missionaries come in!  It's crazy how fast time is going past!  It was like yesterday that our Phii Thais were here, and now they are in Thailand!   I'm super excited to about everything I'm learning here.

EVERYONE!  Make sure to Friend the Bangkok Thailand Mission Facebook page! When I leave the MTC, they will post a bunch of pictures of me both leaving the MTC as well as arriving in Thailand.

The devotional yesterday was pretty cool, Mathew Holland (Jeffery R. Holland's Son), came and talked to us about the life of Joseph Smith.  It was awesome!  He is the President of UVU, so the UVU Choir came and sang a song after each point he made.  The music made it really cool!

My Thai is coming along.  This week, we focused a lot on teaching the commandments.  It's kind of weird, but I have to say, my favorite lessons to teach are the Word of Wisdom, (keeping our bodies clean both inside and out), and the Law of Chastity.  I really focused on making flash cards and learning the vocab, so my vocab for those are pretty good.

So.....tonight we do our first SKYPE TRC with people actually in THAILAND....kinda intimidating, but I think we'll do alright...

I'm having fun and doing my best to work really hard.  I miss you all and thanks for being awesome.

My handstand for the week!  LOL

I love you Mom!  Love you dad! Tell everyone I love 'em!!!

I got my hair cut this morning, so I’m running a little later than usual!!   Every week goes by super fast here, so I hope I can remember it all. Yesterday’s devotional was AMAZING!!! We heard from a stake president from Philadelphia.. He played in the NFL for like 8 years and he related missionary work to athletics.  It was awesome!
My cantonese friends leave for hong kong today.. kinda sad but we decided that we're going to hang out a bunch once were all back... Elder Kim and Elder Jensen are some of my best buds!
This is Elder Alldredge.  He is one of my Cantonese buds!!
Gonna miss this guy!

Every Saturday, we now teach what is called TRC.  TRC is like home teaching, except our teachers watch us through a camera and we teach people from Thailand who do not speak any English.. It’s rough sometimes, but I’m super surprised at how much I understand and can speak.  One of the Khonthais asked me and my companion if we were leaving this Monday because he thought we were so ready!  I feel very lucky and blessed.

So, on the 25th, we had a Christmasversary! These next pictures are of that party.  It was a blast!
One of the missionaries even brought presents for everyone!

Oh yeah, on MAY 10th, I’ll be able to make a 30 minute phone call home!!  That’ll be awesome!  I’m not 100% sure how it’s all going to work, but they’ll give me more info within the next week.  I just need to know what phone you want me to call.  Also, in a couple of weeks right before we board the plane for Thailand, we’ll be able to call again.  So that’ll be AWESOME!

Yesterday, four of us did the tower challenge.  I know my brothers and Kelsha know what that is!   It’s where you finish an entire tower of cereal before the workers have time to fill it back up again. My stomach is still hurting!  Even though it was worth it, better tell all my nephews this is NOT a good idea.

April 20, 2015

Thailand bound end of May 2015!!

The days feel so long here, but the weeks are so short, if that makes any sense.  It’s crazy! I feel like I just got here and my MTC stay is Half Way OVER!!
Me and my Aussie buddy in class!

I’ve pretty well spent this whole week in class.. A lot of teaching investigators and learning grammar.  I've pretty well learned how to read!  The vowels in script are so hard to pick out but I can pretty well read the scriptures.  Heavenly Father has been so good to me.

As for devotionals, we have two a week, one on Tuesday and one on Sunday.  We've had members of the Seventy every time.   All of them are super awesome although, last nights I was really tired from a bunch of meetings that we had been to... and, I kinda fell asleep.
My Bud Elder LOR and I at the devotional last night (we both fell asleep, lol).  He's Fluent in Hmong, English and learning Thai with us!
He's crazy smart!

Every Sunday evening, we get to watch a film from a selection of different devotionals, talks, etc. Last night we watched a talk that David Bednar gave last Christmas in the MTC.   It was AMAZING!!  Can't even describe it in an e-mail really, so I won't try.....and, the MTC is the only place in the world where it is shown.  Last week we saw meet the Mormons.. Holy Cow if you haven't seen Meet the Mormons, you need to see it! Seriously! It's so cool!

I ALWAYS feel so GREAT after going to the temple!!!

Thank you Mom and Dad for being awesome and thank you all other family for also being so awesome!

Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHELSY & JAKE!!
